THE BACKGROUND
Case Study: Altara: World's First Dual Awning Modular Camping Tent
Altara Camping is a Seattle-based outdoor product design team who sought to make a better, more useful, and more reliable tent. They sought to make one designed around the camper and their needs, in a wide variety of outdoor conditions.
Tents are one of the main ways of sleeping during any outdoor trip, and therefore are essential camping gear. However, pitching a tent and getting it sleep-ready is an energy-draining chore that can often take much of one's day, limiting time for other activities. Additionally, it is difficult at times to find the perfect spot for a tent, in order to sleep comfortably.
Altara Camping sought to create a solution to this with the Arcadia 4P tent, which they designed to be easier to set up, more spacious, sturdier, and more comfortable than other tents. Additionally, it's multi-functional, modular, and usable in a variety of configurations.

Our Approach
Altara sought to create a tent that could adapt to any conditions or settings a camper may experience outdoors, rather than a tent that forces the camper to adapt to it.
The resulting Arcadia 4P tent allows for a variety of setups, with each element fitting together seamlessly. The Arcadia 4P tent was designed around these design elements:
A-frame for height & stability: The Arcadia 4P tent is designed with an innovative A-frame for stability and support, which adds 6'3" of usable standing height inside the tent, from wall-to-wall.
Modular tent system: The Arcadia 4P is fully modular, which creates a more customizable experience for the camper. Each part of the tent- the rainfly, awnings, and pole structure- are all made to stand independently, meaning they can be used in a variety of configurations, including with an open vehicle to integrate the two together.
5-Minute Setup: The Arcadia 4P tent is made to be quick and easy to set up, eliminating the chore-like work that setting up a typical tent is associated with. Most tents have over-complicated pole systems with diagram instructions that aren't much help. The Arcadia is simple to set up by comparison, with poles pre-attached and color-coded, so that one person can easily set up the tent by themself.
Sturdy and wind-resistant: The Arcadia 4P is tested and built to stand up to the wind, engineered with reinforced fabric and steel stakes.
Maximum Ventilation: The Arcadia 4P is designed for airflow to keep campers cool while sleeping, with 4 doors, 5 mesh windows, and dedicated ventilation panels.

THE RESULTS
The Kickstarter campaign video was a simple but effective one, with no commentary, showing the tent being set up and used outdoors in the multiple configurations. It did a great job of showing off the height and usable floor space inside the tent as well. There were questions from the backers on shipping logistics, given the length of the campaign. Backers were curious about the product and Altara responded promptly!
